Day 5 ยท September 5
Critical words build nothing โ but kindness builds people. Let only what is helpful for building others up come out of your mouth today.
Scripture Whisper: Let your words build people up and give grace where it is needed.
Criticism is easy to release and difficult to retrieve. A sharp comment may last only seconds, but the weight of it can remain in someoneโs heart for years. Sometimes criticism is spoken aloud. Other times it stays in our thoughts, quietly shaping our expression, patience, and willingness to understand.
Kindness asks a better question than, โWhat is wrong with this person?โ It asks, โWhat might they be carrying?โ That question does not excuse harmful behavior, but it helps us respond with wisdom instead of contempt. Kindness sees the person before the problem.
Your words can become a place where another person feels diminished or a place where they receive courage. Today, allow the Holy Spirit to interrupt the critical sentence before it leaves your mouth. Look for something true and life-giving to say instead. Kindness is not empty flattery. It is choosing to use truth in a way that helps another person stand taller.
Read today's Scripture focus and carry its truth into the ordinary moments of your day.
๐ Ephesians 4:29
โLet your words build people up and give grace where it is needed.โ
Wear YELLOW today as a reminder: Kind words build others up.
๐๏ธ Write down a critical thought or phrase you have repeated about someone. Crumple the habit of reducing a whole person to one frustration.
โจ Offer one specific, sincere word of encouragement to someone who may not expect it from you.
๐ Holy Spirit, guard my thoughts and words. Help me see people with compassion and use my voice to strengthen rather than diminish them. Amen.
How could your words become a source of grace for someone today?
